Staffing Distribution

The Staffing Distributions section button opens a screen to define the staffing requirements for the organization unit based on actual patient census and acuity. This information is used by the system to update required staffing levels.

For example, the schedule is initially staffed using the staffing levels set up on the Staffing Template or Core Staffing Template. These staffing levels are based on the projected patient census and acuity. On the current date, the staffing levels may need to be adjusted due to unusually high or unusually low actual patient census and/or acuity.

The actual patient census or patient care hours may be imported from a third party patient classification system (PCS) or the information can be manually entered into the system using the Recalculate Staffing Needs feature.

Note: The Staffing Distributions button is only enabled if a Census Category has been selected on the General screen and the Number of Acuity Levels entered.

• When setting up the Staffing Distributions screen, values can be copied from one coverage period to another coverage period within the same acuity or to coverage periods in other acuities. Note: For more information, see Replicating Coverage Period Values.
• When setting up the Staffing Distributions screens, values can be copied from one acuity level to another. Note: For more information, see Replicating Acuity Values.

  Note: The profiles listed on the Staffing Distribution screen are those that were previously selected on the Profiles section screen. Note: For more information on adding or removing a profile from the list, see Adding a Profile and/or Deleting a Profile.

  To delete one or more Profile records from the open record, complete the following steps:

  1. Check the box on each record to be removed.
  2. Click on the Delete Selected button in the left pane.
  3. A message appears verifying the record should be deleted. Click on Yes to continue.

     Note: This action removes the selected profile records from this record only, it does not delete them from the Profiles configuration screen.

  To add one or more Profiles codes to this record, click on the Add button. The Profile Search page is displayed to filter search criteria when searching for an existing record.

  1. After entering values in the selected fields, click on the Search button. The results are listed below the search screen.
  2. To select one or more record, click the selection box to the left of the record to alternately add or remove the check mark.
  3. To select/de-select all records in a specific search result set, click on the box above the search results to add or remove all check marks.
  4. After selecting records, click on the Assign Selected button to add and save the profiles to this record.

Depending on the Census Category selected, the appropriate table is displayed to set up the staffing needs. The following Census Category options are available:
