General
The General screen is used to establish the requirements in formatting employee passwords. This requires employees to create "strong" passwords that are more secure. Automatic expiration and failed login values are also defined on this screen.
Actions:
The following actions are available in the left pane:
Hide Default Password
The Hide Default Password button hides the field to enter a default password. When automatically created passwords do not use the Default Login Password, the field does not need to be displayed.
Note: The Default Login Password is required if Authentication Indicator System Standard 5 is set to A.
Authentication Indicator System Standard 5 is used to determine the pattern used to create an employee's password when initially logging into the system or when the employee password is reset.
When Authentication Configuration Indicator 2 is set to Y, passwords are automatically created as follows:
Valid Values:
A
|
The password is determined by the Default Password defined in Authentication Configuration.
|
B
|
The password is determined by the employee’s code. (default) For example, when the employee code is 0123456, the employee’s First-Time Password is 0123456.
|
C
|
The password is determined by the employee’s birth date (MMDDYYYY). For example, when the employee’s birth date is January 1, 1965, the employee’s first-time password is 01011965.
|
Show Default Password
Click on the Show Default Password button to display the Default Login Password field to configure a system-wide default password. This password is used when an employee is logging into the system for the first time or when an existing employee password has been reset by an authorized user AND if Authentication Indicator System Standard 5 is set to A. After an employee uses the Default Password to log in, an additional screen appears for the employee to create a new, secure password.
Authentication Indicator System Standard 5 is used to determine the pattern used to create an employee's password when initially logging into the system or when the employee password is reset.

The password to be used by employees when first logging into the application or after their password has been reset (if indicator settings determine the default password is to be used). A screen is then displayed for employees to enter and confirm a new password.
To hide this field, click on the Hide Default Password action button.
Note: For more information on resetting employee passwords, see the Configuration section>Employee card>Manage Employee Password.
Hide Default PIN
The Hide Default PIN button hides the field to enter a default personal identification number. When automatically created PINs do not use the Default Login PIN, the field does not need to be displayed.
Note: The Default Login PIN is required if Authentication Indicator System Standard 7 is set to A.
Authentication Indicator System Standard 7 is used to determine the pattern used to create an employee's Personal Identification Number (PIN) when initially logging into the system or when the employee PIN is reset.
When Authentication Configuration Indicator 6 is set to Y, PINs are automatically created as follows:
Valid Values:
A
|
Users can login with the PIN equal to the value stored in the Default Login PIN field.
|
B
|
Users can login with the PIN equal to the last four (4) digits employee’s code. For example, when the employee code is ABC3456, the employee’s PIN is 3456. When the Employee Code is less than 4 characters, the PIN is created with leading zeros to ensure a 4 digit PIN. For example, when the employee code is 56, the employee’s PIN is 0056.
|
C
|
Users can login with the PIN equal to the employee’s birth month and date in MMDD format. For example, when the employee’s birth date is January 1, 1965, the employee’s first-time PIN is 0101.
|
Show Default PIN
Click on the Show Default PIN button to display the Default Login PIN field to configure a system-wide default Personal Identification Number. This PIN can be used when an employee is logging into the application for the first time, or after an existing employee PIN has been reset by an authorized user. After an employee uses the default to log in, an additional screen appears for the employee to enter a new PIN.
The four-digit Personal Identification Number to be used by employees when first logging into the application or after their PINs have been reset. Employees are then required to create a new PIN.
To hide this field, click on the Hide Default PIN action button.
Note: This Default PIN is only used for initial login if Authentication Indicator System Standard 6 is set to Y and Authentication Indicator System Standard 7 is set to A.

Authentication Indicator System Standard 6 determines whether or not Employee Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) are automatically created by the system for users initially signing into the system or when the PIN is reset.
The PIN naming pattern is determined by Authentication Indicator System Standard 7.

Auto Expire Notification Period
The number of days in advance of a password expiration that an employee is notified. The employee has the opportunity to change the password at that time, or to postpone the change to a later date, up until the day of expiration.
Default Login Password
The password to be used by employees when first logging into the application or after their password has been reset (if indicator settings determine the default password is to be used). A screen is then displayed for employees to enter and confirm a new password.
Default Login PIN
The four-digit Personal Identification Number to be used by employees when first logging into the application or after their PINs have been reset. Employees are then required to create a new PIN.
Failed Login Count
The number of unsuccessful login attempts before the employee is locked out from trying to log in.
Failed Login Period
The number of hours that must elapse from the time the employee is locked out of the system (due to maximum failed login attempts) until the employee is able to try to log in again.
This value is only used when the Failed Login Period Enabled field is set to Yes. If this field is set to No, the employee can only be reset by an authorized user.
Failed Login Period Enabled
Indicates whether to allow the system to automatically "reset" to allow an employee to log in after maximum failed login attempts.
Lower Case Character Count
The minimum number of lower case letters that must be included in the password.
Maximum Password Length
The maximum number of characters allowed when configuring a password.
Minimum Password Length
The minimum number of characters allowed when configuring a password.
Numeric Character Count
The minimum number of numbers that must be included in the password.
Password Auto Expire Period
The number of days after the creation of a password that it becomes invalid. For example, if '90' is entered in this field, the current password will expire after 90 days. A new password must then be created by the user, and that new one will expire after 90 days.
Note: The value entered must be 1 or larger; zero is not a valid entry. If employee passwords should not expire, enter a large number (such as 9999) in this field.
PIN Auto Expire Period
The number of days after the creation of a personal identification number (PIN) that it becomes invalid. For example, if '90' is entered in this field, the current PIN will expire after 90 days. A new PIN must then be created by the user, and that new one will expire after 90 days.
Note: The value entered must be 1 or larger; zero is not a valid entry. If employee passwords should never expire, enter a large number (such as 9999) in this field.
Reuse Count
The number of times a password must be changed before a previously configured password can be reused.
Reuse Duration
The number of days that must elapse before a user can reuse the same password as one that was previously configured. For example, if this value is set to 365 days, a user cannot use the same password within the 365 day time frame.
Special Character
The minimum number of special characters that must be included in the password. Special characters are those characters on the keyboard that are not letters or numbers.
Uppercase Character Count
The minimum number of upper case (capital) letters that must be included in the password.
