Set the SYS Application Indicator
In this section, you enable the Open Shift Notification feature. While enabling the feature, you will also designate how you want your organization unit to be identified in broadcasts and how notifications and responses are processed. To accomplish this, you need to set the following SYS Application indicators.
- Mobile Device Standard 1: Enables Open Shift Notification
- Mobile Device Standard 2: Determines how the organization unit is identified in the broadcast message
- Mobile Device Standard 4: Identifies the default method for handling Open Shift Notification responses
- Mobile Device Standard 5: Determines if schedule validation is performed during Open Shift Notification
Note: Mobile Device Standard 3, which identifies the notification service used, is a hidden indicator. If you are using a notification service other than the Time and Attendance and Staffing and Scheduling Open Shift Notification service, contact API Healthcare Client Support to update this value.
To enable Open Shift Notifications, complete the following steps.
- Navigate to Configuration section > System card > Application screen.
- In the Code field, type SYS.
- Click Search and open the SYS record.
- Click the Indicators tab and expand the Mobile Device Communications card.
- In the Mobile Device Standard 1 field, select Y.
- In the Mobile Device Standard 2 field, select the appropriate organization unit identification method.
- C - use the organization unit's Code
- D - use the organization unit's Description
- A - use the organization unit's Abbreviation
Note: If you select A, you must also create the organization unit's abbreviation. If you select A but do not create the organization unit's abbreviation, the system will use the organization unit's code. For more information, see Set the Organization Unit Indicator.
- In the Mobile Device Standard 4 field, select the notification queue option.
- F - award open shifts on a first come first serve basis (default option)
- N - award open shifts on a first come first serve basis and do not provide an override option when creating an open shift notification
- Q - place respondents into a queue for approval
- In the Mobile Device Standard 5 field, select Y or N.
- If you are queuing open shift notification responses (option Q in the Mobile Device Standard 4 field) or allow first come first serve to be overridden when sending out a broadcast (option F in the Mobile Device Standard 4 field), do the following:
- Click the Parameters tab and open the Mobile Device Communications card.
This option is not used when N is selected in the Mobile Device Standard 4 SYS Indicator field.
- In the Mobile Device Communication Standard Hour 1 field, enter the number of hours before the start of the shift to close the notification window.
This sets the default amount of time before the start of the shift for accepting shift request responses. You can change this value when you broadcast open shifts.
- Click Save.
