There are two profile indicators that impact the Current Staffing Overview.
The ratio shows you the ratio of staff assigned to patients.
Note: The ratios are calculated using schedules that are configured as direct care, which is set on an activity code's indicator SS Solution Standard 2. That indicator is most likely set already; however, if needed, the indicator must be set to to Y. See Set the activity code and pay code indicators
To determine the ratio, the system looks at all the qualifying schedules that overlap the coverage period. The system then looks for the point in time during the coverage period with the fewest number of scheduled employees. This number is used in calculating the ratio.
The ratio is calculated using the smallest number of scheduled caregivers and the census value (patients). The calculation is patients divided by caregivers. The resulting value is then rounded to the nearest whole number. An exception to this calculation occurs when there is a census of zero (0). In this case, the ratio appears as 1:1.
Example:
In a twelve-hour coverage period from 07:00 to 19:00, at any given time there are between three and five caregivers scheduled. If the census is 14, the ratio is calculated as follows:
Census / Caregivers = Ratio
Census: 14
Fewest number of caregivers scheduled: 3
14 / 3 = 4.67, rounded up to 5
The ratio is 1 caregiver to 5 patients, or 1:5.
The Caregiver Utilization is a comparison of scheduled employees to the optimal staffing target, shown as a percentage. The ideal value is 100.00%. An organization unit less than the utilization threshold is represented in blue and a unit greater than the utilization threshold is represented in red. To set up the thresholds at which your organization views this percentage as overutilized or underutilized, see Update the Staffing Configuration.
The Caregiver Utilization is calculated as follows:
([Sum of the qualifying profile needs] / [Sum of the qualifying profile coverage]) x 100
