Requests to Work Feature Set Up

The Request to Work feature allows employees to search for schedule openings they are qualified to work. The system searches for any openings that the employee has position permissions to work. In addition, if organization unit indicator set up allows, the search can be expanded to include openings where employees have the required job class and/or license.

When an employee searches for available Request to Work shifts, processing takes place to see if the employee meets the configured Selection Style. For example, the Holiday rule is included in the Selection Style. Before the search returns any results, Holiday processing is performed. When the employee is not required to work a given holiday, the holiday date is not returned, and thus the employee cannot request to work on their 'off' Holiday.

Other rules on the Selection Style that process before returning selectable dates include: Overstaffing, Approved Hours, Position Permissions, Maximum Work Stretch, Combination of Shifts, Overtime, Schedule Overlap, Approved Unavailability, Weekend, and Shift Equity.

All other validation, such as License, Station, or Preferences, is done as the employee requests shifts.

The Request to Work search results list available schedules and displays the list of activity codes, dates, and organization units. The employee may select any of the schedules and submit them as Requests to Work. The manager of the organization unit where the schedule is to be worked can review the request and approve or deny it.

When a Request to Work is approved, the validation process is run again to verify that any changes since the submission and the approval do not violate the selection style rules. When successfully approved, a schedule entry is created and is visible on the schedule screen and in the employee record.
